Curriculum

The Secondary School

(Ages 11 to 18 years)

The Secondary School is divided into three sections:

  • Key Stage 3 for students aged 11 to 14 years (Key Stage 3)
  • Key Stage 4 for students aged 14 to 16 years (Key Stage 4)
  • Sixth Form for young adults aged 16 to 18 years (Key Stage 5)

Our aim at Kingsworth International School is to provide a rich, broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum that motivates every student to love learning and have a thirst to know and achieve more. We want our curriculum to allow every student to be proud of their achievements, talents and strengths.

It is Kingsworth's goal to ensure that each student becomes engaged and fully participatory in all aspects of school life; curious about learning and the world around them and inspired to extend their learning and interests through the variety of wider-curricular clubs, outside of school and into the future.

The programme throughout the Secondary School is a natural progression from our unique Kingsworth International Primary Curriculum (KIPC) followed in the earlier years, and is broadly based on the English National Curriculum with an International focus under^pinning everything that we do.

The Kingsworth International School Curriculum has been developed to enable our students:

  • accomplish high standards and make improved progress
  • be able to use high-quality personal, learning and thinking skills
  • become independent learners
  • be able to use high-quality functional skills
  • be challenged to achieve their potential
  • have increased commitment and enjoyment of learning.

Ages 11 to 14 years

The academic programme for Grade 6 to Grade 8 at Kingsworth International School is based on the English National Curriculum but is not restricted by its limitations. Our curriculum provides students with a challenging, meaningful and enjoyable programme of study. Laying a strong foundation of skills, knowledge and habits is crucial to success in Key Stage 4 and beyond. Our curriculum at Key Stage 3 provides this excellent foundation for further study through well-planned, informative, innovative and creative lessons set in an international and local context. In which we take the best elements from around the world to create a truly informative and dynamic learning experience.

The programme consists of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, Theatre, PE, Spanish, French and ICT. At Key Stage 3 students take classes in all of these subjects all of which are taught by highly qualified subject specialists who make full use of our excellent facilities.

Key Stage 3 students are constantly developing a strong foundation to guarantee success during the time at Kingsworth International School and in preperation for either IGCSE or entry in to a different educational setting. Students are taught in an environment where risk-taking, independence, critical thinking and teamwork are highly promoted. It is these key attributes, along with the rest of our Core Values and Learning/Teaching Ethos, that provide our students with the best possible foundation for Key Stage 4 and beyond.

At Kingsworth International School the essence of the Key Stage 4 curriculum is the balance between a curriculum that offers breadth and that of student choice. We firmly believe in encouraging all to follow their passions and that enjoyment of a subject fosters success.

Although we recognise the importance of excellent grades, they are only part of what makes a successful student. At Kingsworth we value the individual and treat everyone accordingly. We strive to enable all students to find their given talent and to pursue their passions to fulfill the potential they all possess. Every student at Kingsworth will experience success.

We teach the statutory Key Stage 4 subjects of:  Maths, English (Either 1st Language or 2nd Language), Science (Double Award Sciences), French (Either 1st Language or 2nd Language), Non-curriculum PE and Non-curriculum Theatre.

In order to develop their higher order thinking skills all students are encouraged to be creative and demonstrate a higher level of independence through the curriculum and co-curricular activities; these are vital skills to enable success in the 21st century.

Key Stage 5 Curriculum Ages 16 to 18 years

Key Stage 5
Grade 11 and 12

Ages 16 to 18 years

In the Kingsworth International School Sixth Form all of our students study for AS and A levels across a broad range of subjects. We teach the International A Level with Cambridge International Examinations. Alongside our International A levels, still the gold standard in school age academic achievement, we also offer the Cambridge AICE Diploma.

The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma is an international curriculum and examination system that emphasises the value of broad and balanced study. Alongside in-depth understanding of a variety of subjects, students also need to master a broader range of skills critical for success in university study and employment.

Perhaps, however, the most valuable part of the Kingsworth Key Stage 5 Curriculum is the Extended Project Qualification which teaches highly valued and much sought after independent research and study skills. It gives students the chance to exploit individual interests and strengths and can be a deciding factor in university applications. We believe our curriculum strikes a positive balance between the demands of academic studies and the development of a well rounded individual. Everything we do is focused on enhancing the prospects of our students.

Tutor groups in the Sixth Form as with all years at Kingsworth are small. All tutors work closely with the Deputy Head Teacher and have a vital role to play overseeing a student’s academic and personal progress. Specific lessons are dedicated to such matters as study skills, time management, relevant personal, social and current issues and, as time goes on, the process of applying for Higher Education or employment.
Overall, the curriculum in the Kingsworth Sixth Form ensures that all of our students have the opportunity to maximise their potential, leaving Kingsworth as confident, articulate, successful young people ready to make their mark on the world.
